THE PREMIER
VOCAL PERFORMERS OF DE LA SALLE
UNIVERSITY
De La Salle Innersoul began as a union of four Kundirana alumni in college, together with Mr. Brad Fenomeno, whose passion for singing inspired the founding of a musical group that would soon be the family of many artists in De La Salle University. Launching as a student-artist organization under the Culture and Arts Office on October 3, 1997, Innersoul officially became the university’s first pop vocal group. The success of its first major concert, Innersoul: In Control, granted its members an opportunity to have a concert tour in the La Salle schools all over the country. Gearing towards inclusivity, Innersoul opened its doors to female vocalists in 2003. Innersoul went on to stage their Valentine’s concert, dubbed as "Soulmates".
The group has since then diversified its artistry by honing soloists as well as group performers in various genres of contemporary music, ranging from Pop, Jazz, Dance & Rap, R&B, Liturgical and Gospel Music, and Standard Classics. A successful 10th anniversary concert was held in 2007, which was the first time the group was accompanied by a live orchestra. It was followed by a series of successful concerts including "Under The Starlit Sky", "Carnivale", "Philosophy Of Music", "Forever Yours", "In Love", "Dozen Delights", "Songs Forever", "Revolution” “All Souls’” “Soul Adventures of the Piano Man” and “Listen with Thy Eyes”. A recurring string of recitals was also held under the brand “Soul Sessions,” with titles such as “Urban Blues,” “Mga Awit Ng Pagsinta,” “Persona,” and “Timeless.”
In November 2017, the group celebrated 20 years of soulful music during their anniversary concert entitled Soul Connexxions, which featured both current and alumni members. Woefully, this also served as the last show directed by Mr. Fenomeno, as he passed away in early 2018. Mr. Dave Manalo, an alumnus who served as a company manager prior, was instated as the new trainer and artistic director of the group. Under his direction, “Bandakada” was staged and a new set of members were recruited. A year later, Mr. Vincent Mallari succeeded him. Beginning 2019, he has directed shows including “Soul Sessions: Motown in Motion,” “Tatak Lasalyano,” and “Soul Impact.”. The group also displayed Lasallian excellence in artistry by bagging numerous gold awards in the Asia Pacific Arts Festival (APAF) in Vietnam (2019) and Malaysia (2020).
As the spotlight shifted from the stage to the screens during the COVID-19 pandemic, Innersoul staged its very first online concert production entitled “Dapithapon,” and started expanding its reach online through posting cover videos and live streaming.
